Objectives of UMEA

1. To encourage and promote education development among the Muslims of Uganda, through advocacy, lobbying government and coordination with the Ministry of Education and Sports on all matters relating to Muslim education on behalf of the entire Muslim community.
2. To Mobilize the Muslim community to embrace and support education, and to establish schools and other education institutions across the country; and to ensure that every Muslim child accesses holistic quality eduation.
3. To acquire, hold in trust and secure land and developments on land as well as other (Muslim education) properties both movable and immovable on behalf of the entire muslim community.
4. To mobilize and galvanize head teachers, PTAs, BOGs/SMCs and Muslim teachers in Muslim founded schools and colleges to provide quality education services to the communities. This is through monitoring and evaluation of school programmes, schools administration and BOGs / SMCs performance; organising stakeholders meetings, workshops and seminars, school inspections and support supervision.
5. To promote good governance in Muslim founded education institutions by playing advisory role to school proprietors, founders of community institutions, constituting and training of BOGs/SMCs. UMEA also plays a mediatory role in resolving community / school conflicts.
6. To provide quality leadership through collaborative deployment and supervision of head teachers for effective management and administration of schools, orderly transfer of head teachers and teachers; and encouraging head teachers’ collaboration and unity through UMTA on matters of school management and academic efficiency.
7. To carry out capacity building for head teachers and teachers through regular workshops, seminars and refresher courses; and by providing opportunities to attending local and international short courses, educational tours, conferences and scholarships for higher education.
8. To promote and ensure excellence in academic standards of Muslim founded education institutions through encouraging networking, exchange of teachers and education materials, provision of scholarstic materials and awarding of scholarships to deserving teachers and students who have attained ability but lack necessary funding.
9. To mobilize resources to improve the quality of Muslim founded schools through providing grants for instructional materials, new school infrastructure and maintenance of the existing ones.
10. To improve the quality of teaching in Quran schools and Islamic Institutes by providing a unifi ed curriculum, appropriate text books and instructional materials, joint examinations and improvement of the quality of teachers through special training and providing support supervision to the schools.
11. To establish local and international linkages and pattern with friendly organisations of similar objectives to promote the cause of Muslim education.
12. To promote girl child education by supporting existing and establishing more girl schools, community sensitisation and education, and providing special scholarships for girl child education.
13. To establish and operate an education fund with the main objective of providing scholarships to excelling and needy students at all levels and to support other causes of Muslim education whenever need arises.
14. To establish, develope and operate schools, training and information centers for muslim children and to set up income generating projects in order to fund and support the objectives of UMEA.
15. To promote professional, vocational, academic, technical, scientific, cultural and business education in our institutions.
16. To promote, sponsor, the writing of text books, plays and if thought desirable to fund exhibitions and award prizes, certifi cates and diplomas to students who are or have been students in Muslim established schools.
17. To institute and promote the Quran and Islamic teaching in all Muslim founded institutions especially at primary level by ensuring availability of Islamic teachers and payment of their salaries on private basis since they are not on government pay roll.
18. To carry out any other legal activity that is acceptable in Sharia that may be deemed important in promoting the cause of Muslim education.
